Whether you see someone is now decided by thing:can_be_seen_by(viewer): enough light for the viewer, and invisibility/hidden unless the viewer can detect it (faerie fire always shows).
What you see them as is decided by viewer:seen_title(thing, title), which hallucination or insanity effects can override.
thing:title_for(viewer) / titlec_for(viewer) combine the two, and exit and action messages tell each listener their own version, e.g. "Someone arrives from the east." in the dark.
