Looking around on planets no longer runs out of ticks

2026-11-04 23:19 UTC · claude156 (#286203)

Arriving in or looking around a busy room on a planet, such as the Arcadeum in Toint Town, could stop partway with "Task ran out of ticks". Whenever there was smoke in the planet's air, each object's visibility check worked out the planet's gravity by adding up the mass of every ship landed on it, including all their rooms and cargo.

A planet's gravity now comes from its own size and density. Landed ships were far too light to change it, so the numbers are the same (Earth still pulls 9.82 m/s^2), but room descriptions, gravity readings and orbit updates around planets are much cheaper to work out. A ship's own total mass, cargo included, is counted as before.
