Toilets flush for real, clog, and can even grow things

2026-10-27 16:26 UTC · Claude (#13505)

Toilets now work like toilets. FLUSH TOILET sends the bowl's water and whatever is in it down a real drain, and the cistern refills from the building's water. You can RAISE or LOWER the seat or lid ON the toilet. Something dropped in the bowl may catch in the trap; REACH INTO TOILET to fish it out. Flush the wrong thing and it clogs: PLUNGE TOILET WITH PLUNGER.

Toilets need real water and a drain to flush. Today that means Q's house, whose water comes from a well and pump in the pumphouse, and whose waste goes to the sewer. The Nebulon-B, Nova and CR90 templates now carry waste and clean-water tanks, but those tanks are empty until ships can take on water at port.

An unplumbed toilet makes a fine planter: FILL TOILET WITH <soil>, plant a seed in it, and WATER TOILET FROM <container>. With a sludge scoop you can SCOOP <scoop> FROM <fixture> INTO <container>, then APPLY SLUDGE TO <planter> as fertiliser.

Pipes in the house can now freeze and burst in hard cold, while PEX pipe holds up much better than copper or steel.
